American Girl Dolls

American Girl Dolls might just be the perfect gift for your little girl, not only because they’re cute and provide hours of entertainment, but also because they are educational, wholesome, and high quality. They were created with these three virtues in mind; in 1985 Pleasant T Rowland started American Girls out of frustration of not being able to find dolls with these qualities. In 1986 the Pleasant Company started production, later in 1998 Mattel bought the Pleasant Company and the American Girl products.

The American Girl Collection consists of eight dolls from American history as well as two “best friend” dolls (with another scheduled to be released in Fall 2006). Not only can you give your child some insight into the look and feel of early American history, but also they can get a real indication of what life was like with the American Girl books. They can hear the stories and personalities behind their dolls. Plus, the books are historically accurate and each girl has a part in a certain period of American history.

The dolls in the historical collection are: Kaya®, Felicity®, Josefina®, Kirsten®, Addy®, Samantha®, Kit®, and Molly®. They also released Just Like You® dolls that reflected the girls of today, as well as a line for toddlers and very young girls - Bitty Baby® dolls.

They are fairly large, standing 18” tall, and they are all the same size so they can share clothing. They have vinyl heads, lower arms, and legs, and cloth bodies.

You can really get a lot out of these dolls, you can read the stories to your children and then play out some of the scenes, or, of course, make it up as you go!
